Rotterdam Netherlands - Europe's Largest Port

With a 2007 public of 584,000,  Rotterdam  is on the vast delta of all of the river Rhine, and will be the biggest port in Europe. It's the Netherlands' second-largest city next to the more high profile Amsterdam, but Rotterdam most certainly has its very own special appeal that really makes it a great tourist destination. The truth is, four million people per year visit Rotterdam.

The community center was mostly destroyed directly at the first of World War II, and the community was rebuilt with a peek toward the future. Thus Rotterdam is a modern city compared to several of its European contemporaries, as well as features much stunning modern architecture. The city is known for its impressive skyline. It's the tallest residential building within the Netherlands from 524 feet, and the 520 foot tallest company building, called Delftse Poort. Another prominent feature of the skyline is the 610 foot Euromast Tower, which is a very popular tourist attraction.

Rotterdam has worked difficult to create itself an attractive location, and was rewarded for that attempt with the European Capital of Culture designation in 2001. The community is rich in museums of that there are many, including the Maritime Museum, that has over the half million exhibits. There is much excellent shopping also, with the Linjbaan pedestrian shopping place standing out with its a number of good specialty restaurants. Moreover , be sure to go to the Oceanium, which is a fantastic sea aquarium which includes a particularly scary shark tunnel.

Don't miss the well known Walk of Fame, which in turn commemorates 200 international celebrities deeply in concrete along "Star Boulevard". The port is especially well lit and amazing during the night -- before you leave Rotterdam, you've to take a cruise on the colorful "pancake boat", where you can cruise over the nighttime cityscape and port while ingesting every one of the pancakes you can carry away.
